LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor

LockDown Browser is a locked browser for use with quizzes in Canvas. If a Canvas quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser.

If LockDown Browser has not been installed yet, click this SJECCD unique link to download and install LockDown Browser (this is a one-time process for each computer): https://download.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=198838300  (this version doesn’t work with WebAssign exam)

Note1: If you found the LockDown Browser installation link using a search engine, the version you installed won’t work with SJECCD Canvas.

Note2: If you need LockDown Browser for WebAssign exam, please follow this guide to install a 2nd version of LockDown Browser on your device :LockDown Browser (webassign.com)

After LockDown Browser is installed, you will begin a quiz using the LockDown Browser program on your desktop:

1. Close all programs, unless one is used to connect you to the Internet.

2. Locate the “LockDown Browser” shortcut on the desktop and double-click it. (For Mac users, launch “LockDown Browser” from the Applications folder.)

3. If prompted, either close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging) by choosing Yes. Or, close LockDown Browser and close the blocked program before restarting.

4. Log into Canvas via SJECCD Secure Login (SSO).

5. Navigate to the quiz within the course and begin the quiz.

Note: Once a quiz has been started with Respondus LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the quiz has been submitted for grading.

You may be required to use LockDown Browser with a webcam. Your computer must have a functioning webcam and microphone. A broadband connection is also required.
