LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking quizzes in Canvas. If a quiz requires LockDown Browser, you cannot use a regular web browser to complete it.
If you haven't installed LockDown Browser yet, click this link to download and install it (this is a one-time setup for each computer): https://download.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=198838300 (this version doesn’t work with WebAssign exam)
Note1: If you found the LockDown Browser link through a search engine, the version you installed will not work with SJECCD Canvas.
Note2: If you need LockDown Browser for a WebAssign exam, please follow this guide to install a second version of LockDown Browser on your device:LockDown Browser (webassign.com)
After installing LockDown Browser, start your quiz using the LockDown Browser program on your desktop:
1. Close all programs except the one you use to connect to the Internet.
2. Find the “LockDown Browser” shortcut on your desktop and double-click it. (For Mac users, open “LockDown Browser” from the Applications folder.)
3. If you see a prompt, either close the blocked program (like screen capture or instant messaging) by selecting Yes, or close LockDown Browser and the blocked program before trying again.
4. Log into Canvas using SJECCD Secure Login (SSO).
5. Go to the quiz in your course and start it.
Note: Once you start a quiz with Respondus LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until you submit the quiz for grading.
You may need to use LockDown Browser with a webcam. Your computer must have a working webcam and microphone, and a broadband connection is required.
