Activating Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Single Sign-On (SSO) is strongly advised to protect your account from unauthorized access. Click here for step-by-step instructions on enabling and setting up MFA. You can also find a PDF guide linked at the bottom right of this page.
Students using multi-factor authentication will need two security steps to log in. The first is their college email and password, and the second is either a text message (SMS) code or a code from an authenticator app.
To watch an MFA video, click: MFA. To set up or verify your security info, click here: MFA/Security Setup
Important MFA Setup Reminder: You can skip the initial Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) setup only once. If you skip it, you must complete MFA enrollment within 14 days.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your login. It requires two types of identification. The first is your college password. The second can be:
- Your cell phone - receive a time-sensitive one-time passcode via SMS text that you enter on the login screen (similar to banking or medical websites). This is the easiest and most recommended option.
- An authenticator app - apps like Google or Microsoft Authenticator can be used. You must have the app open when logging in. These apps work on phones and tablets.
Why does Microsoft MFA ask every 30 days?
Microsoft MFA prompts every 30 days to keep your account secure by regularly confirming your identity. This helps prevent unauthorized access and strengthens your account’s protection.
I get asked for MFA every time I log in
Check your browser settings. Avoid using Incognito mode or settings that delete cookies when you close the browser, or you’ll be asked for the code every time. MFA saves your location in a browser cookie so you won’t need to re-authenticate from the same device and browser after the first time. We recommend Google Chrome for ease of use, but MFA works with most popular browsers.
What is OTP?
OTP means one-time password. It’s a password valid for only one login session or transaction on a device. OTPs are used in two-factor authentication (2FA), where you enter both your password and an OTP to access your account.
I’m not getting the verification code on my mobile device
If you don’t receive your verification code, it’s usually due to your mobile device or its settings.
I have a new mobile device and want to add it
If you have a new mobile device, you’ll need to set it up for two-factor verification. Follow the instructions here: Setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
