Microsoft is moving to passkeys by default and is retiring native SMS and voice authentication. Because of this, some users may need a temporary exception from passkey enrollment. Skipping Setup
- Sometimes, when you sign in, you may see the message below. To avoid setting up a passkey on a device you do not want to use for authentication, select "Not now."
- If you accidentally select "Next," you will see the page below.
- When the passkey setup prompt appears on your computer, select "Cancel" to stop the setup process.
- You will return to the sign-in page, where you can select "Try again later" to continue without setting up a passkey.
Removing a Passkey
- Sign in to your Microsoft Security info page. The fastest way to get there is with this URL: http://aka.ms/mfasetup
- When you open the page, you may be asked to authenticate, possibly with your passkey. If that happens, cancel the request. You may then see an error message with an option to sign in another way.
- Select the option to sign in another way, then choose "Use my password" to sign in with your usual password.
4. After you sign in with your password, you may be asked to verify your identity with another authentication method. Select an available method, such as Microsoft Authenticator.
5. After you sign in, you will see a list of your registered authentication methods, including your passkey. Find the passkey you want to remove and select "Delete."
