Before You Start
- You can install the full Office desktop suite on up to 5 devices per person (PCs, Macs, tablets, or phones combined).
- Microsoft Access is included with your student license, but it only runs on Windows — there is no Mac version of Access.
- Mac users will still get Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote through the same steps below.
To get your Office 365 follow these steps:
PC and Mac
1. Go to portal.office.com and sign in with your school (student) email and password.
2. In the left-hand menu, click “Apps & devices.”
3. Under the Office section, confirm your Language and Version (64-bit is recommended unless you know you need 32-bit).
4. Click the orange “Install Office” button.

5. Open the downloaded file (OfficeSetup.exe) and let it run — this installs the whole suite at once, including Access.
6. When installation finishes, open any Office app (e.g., Word) and sign in again with your school account to activate it.
7. Look for “Access” in your Start Menu alongside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Mac (Access not available)
Mac users follow nearly the same steps, but Apple computers cannot run Microsoft Access — Microsoft has never released a Mac version. You'll still get the rest of the Office suite:
1. Go to portal.office.com and sign in with your school (student) email and password.
2. Click “Apps & devices” in the left-hand menu.
3. Click “Install Office.” The site automatically detects macOS and downloads a Mac installer (.pkg file) instead of the Windows .exe.
4. Open the downloaded .pkg file and follow the on-screen prompts to install.
5. Open any Office app and sign in with your school account to activate.
6. You will have Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote — but not Access.
If a Mac User Specifically Needs Access
- Use a Windows PC or lab computer on campus instead.
- Run Windows on the Mac via Boot Camp or a virtual machine (Parallels, VMware Fusion) if the Mac supports it.
